The YouTube comments on this are fucking atrocious, but what should I have expected? Black Friday is a great day in America, because for 24 hours rich people get to mock poor people for fighting to acquire the same kind of electronic bullshit—albeit of a lower quality—that already adorns every room in rich people’s condos and McMansions. We reinforce the notion, via any number of channels, that owning a bunch of garbage is necessary to have a good life and then we humiliate people who treat owning a big damn TV like a matter of life and death. Just a real cool, excellent world we’ve built.

"The false assumption is that this stuff has to be boring. It doesn’t. Technology provides a way to make this stuff much more dynamic. Our success is not going to be tied to the content we produced, but the ways we present that content. "We are not a deadbeat nation… So we’ve got to pay our bills. And Republicans in Congress have two choices here. They can act responsibly, and pay America’s bills, or they can act irresponsibly and put America through another economic crisis. But they will not collect a ransom in exchange for not crashing the American economy … We’ve got to stop lurching from crisis to crisis to crisis when there’s this clear path ahead of us that simply requires some discipline, some responsibility, and some compromise. That’s where we need to go. That’s how this needs to work."
